This thing depends on this that
first our distance with his ahle-wilayah( those for whom he was the Imam) should be specified
so that we reach the point where we understand that
this reality is beyond comprehension and description.
All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. And His blessings be on our leader Prophet Mohammad( pbuh) and his Pure Progeny (a.s) particularly on the Hujjat of Allah (a.s) on the lands. And may His curse be on all their enemies till the Day of Judgement.
Our discussion had reached upto the question raised by Mohaqqiq-e-Iraqi on the Shiekh
Some people wanted the discussion to be regarding the fifth Imam( a.s)
This thing depends on this that
first our distance with his ahle-wilayah( those for whom he was the Imam) should be specified
so that we reach the point where we understand that
this reality is beyond comprehension and description.
It is easy to pronounce this name.
However, to perceive the named is extremely difficult.
Firstly, the quantity or the number of branches of knowledge related to the Imam( a.s)
Secondly, the quality
And both of these are exhausting discussions.
Apart from an elite group of people the majority are unable to comprehend this topic
Mohammad-ibn-e-Muslim has come across 16000 Ahadith such that
One of the hadith regarding Fiqh entails a discussion of atleast a month
An example of this is as follows:
Imam Baqir (a.s) told Jabir ibn-e-Yazid-e-Ja'fi :
I exhort you regarding five things:
First: If you are oppressed do not oppress others (even the oppressor)
The word "oppression" should be erased from your dictionary
We shall quote this tradition in different ways so as to make its meaning more accessible
So that it is made clear that not one tradition from him
but infact one part of one tradition,
will suffice for reforming man's world and afterlife
Second: He( pbuh) said: "If someone betrays you, do not betray others ( even the person who has betrayed you)"
Then he reached the third:
"If you are refuted, your speech is related to falsehood, do not be sad or despondent over this refutation."
If you are praised you should not be pleased about it.
Infact, perception of each sentence is surprising.
Human traits are different from human actions
Human actions like speech and deeds are in his free-will.
Human beings reach a point in this school that not only human actions
but also human traits come under the domain of the free-will
This is why the gist of the practical knowledge of all the sages of the world is contained in a small part of his remarks:
If you are praised do not be pleased
If you are insulted do not be impatient
The order of these sentences. Where have they begun from and where have they ended.
Where has each one been placed
These are the subtleties that tell us that he is the Cleaver of the knowledge of the prophets(pbut)
He started the first sentence like this:
If you are being oppressed then do not oppress.
The comprehend why this sentence is first it is enough that,
understanding of hadith is important.
apprehending of hadith is compulsory.
It is sad that our age has passed
And we have not utilized or thought about the subtleties of these sayings of these people
Why did he begin with oppression first?
Why then did he bring treachery in the second place?
Each one of them entails a long discussion.
The reason of beginning with oppression is
"The foundation of man is based on Al-Aql (wisdom and intellect)"
Every entity comprising of parts has a foundation, a pillar
Man is also a composite being:
"Indeed! We created man from a drop of coalesced fluid."
The Human body also comprises of parts
the brain and lips and spirit as well (are) composite.
The body and soul are composite.
The foundation of this composition and the pillar of the human canopy is Al-Aql(wisdom and intelligence)
"The foundation of man is based on Al-Aql (wisdom and intellect)"
" Wisdom and intellect (al-Aql) in the heart are like a lantern in the house."
This heavenly lantern that has been set alight in the human soul according to the best of explanations
This is the explanation of the representative of God who is the witness to creation:
Lo, beware the example of Aql in the heart is like a lantern in the house
the relation of oppression with Aql is like the relationship between darkness and light.
Oppression is the darkness of Aql(wisdom and intelligence)
In an oppressive person the light of Aql is absent.
That is the reason he started with oppression first.
Someone understands why he started with this word who
first understands the reality of oppression
then also comprehends the beginning of oppression and its end
then only can he say why begin with this word.
The reality of oppression is crossing the boundary of what is right.
Thus again one must comprehend right in order to comprehend crossing the boundaries of what is right
One verse and one tradition is enough so that we understand who Baqir ul Uloom is.
Refer to the Quran. Pay particular attention on the way God explains.
"Deem not that Allah….."
This sentence with special emphasis in Arabic ( using Nun e Takeed e Thaqile)
"Deem not that Allah is unaware of what the oppressors do."
"He but giveth them a respite till a day when eyes will stare (in terror)."
This quotation explains as to what is oppression.
"He but giveth them a respite till a day when eyes will stare (in terror)."
Again in the Quran itself it has been explained in another place,
" Lo! Thy Lord is by the Mirsaad( ambush)."
After this the Imam(a.s) said:
Mirsaad is a place in Sirat( a small bridge between heaven and hell)
From this point no one who has oppressed can pass.
This is why he began with this word
However, the tradition, the style of speaking is amazing
God addressed his Prophet( pbuh):
"O Brother of Prophets! O Brother of Warners! Warn your people."
This expression has only been used here.
" O Brother of Prophets! O Brother of Warners! Warn your people."
The Prophet( pbuh) asked: " What should I warn them about?"
The revelation came: "Warn them…"
" Nobody should enter one of my houses, such that, if someone comes to my house and stands for prayer…."
What is prayer?
Prayer(salat) is that condition that when the prayer stands to pray
Mercy comes down from the point where he stands till the heavens
However, here the issue is:
"….. If someone comes to my house…"
"… and stands for prayer and he has oppressed someone…"
" till the time he stands for prayer I shall curse him."
This is the reality of oppression.
This is the reason why he said first:
" If oppressed do not oppress."
That too one is not oppressing first
it reaches a point when he is being oppressed
however, he doesn't oppress even the oppressor.
this is the purity and sanctity of those who are raised by him
Afterwards, once he(a.s) said all this, he gave the reason for it too:
"Why do I advise you not to be pleased if praised?"
" If debased not to be sad and impatient."
The soul should reach such great heights under his guidance that it reaches this stage.
Then the summary of his remarks is as follows:
" There are two possibilities:"
" Either that as to what he has said regarding you is to be found in you or otherwise."
" Between these two we don’t have a third option."
" If that quality is in you,"
" your debasement in the eyes of Allah cannot be compared with your debasement in the eyes of His creation."
"Infact, the relation is that of existence and non-existence"
"If you have that quality then you have debased yourself in the eyes of Allah for being angry at a true word."
"And this tragedy cannot be compared with debasement in front of His creation."
"What is the value of debasement before these folk."
" Their praise and criticism are both of no value."
"One small nap and neither I would recognize you nor you would."
"Thus debasement in the eyes of ordinary mortals is not that important."
"Affliction is if you are debased in the eyes of someone who " neither slumber nor sleep overtake Him."
"If that quality is in you such is the case."
"And if that quality is not in you. You were debased for a quality you didn’t have."
" You have received reward without undergoing any inconvenience."
Without any torment you have reached the station of worship and submission and have received the reward of the obedient
And after this he said: "O Jabir!
"the important point is, understand this well,
"and also deliver these sayings of the Ahl-e-Bayt( a.s) to the people as they are,
" Said: O Jabir! There is no friend of ours,
" except he who if all the people of the town and city were to combine and
" all of them agree on his goodness,
" he never gets pleased and is not influenced by it.
" Such a person is our friend.
"If all the people of the town come together and say: "You are evil."
"You should neither be sad, nor influenced by it
This now is a friend of his
Where are we and his friendship
If one person praises us, we explode with joy.
If another degrades us we go back into our shells.
"Somebody who is not like this will not be attracted to our friendship:
" He should present himself to the Book of God."
What did he say after this? He said:
" If he presented himself to the Book of Allah, saw that he is a wayfarer of the path of Allah,
This is the first sentence,
" He is an ascetic regarding the things one is asked to shun.
" He has an attraction for the things that one is asked to be attracted to,
" If he reaches this station, he should be happy and satisfied.
" That is the time to rejoice for our friend
These are his friends
How great is our distance from them
Then how great is their distance from the Beginning of Light (Mabda e Nur) that is connected to the Light of Lights ( Nur ul Anwar)
One of his Hadith is this.
Only if this is implemented where would mankind reach?
How high would the station of man reach?
Such is the person that the Prophet (pbuh) of God…
The person whom God sends His blessings
124,000 prophets wish to convey their blessings to him.
He said:" O Jabir! You should stay back,
" so that you convey my salam to the Cleaver of the Knowledge of the Prophets."
Infact, the life of Jabir with the benediction of the Prophet(pbuh) was a prologue to delivering this salam
" When you reach him convey my salam to him.
"He is Baqir!"
This is a name given to him by someone who:
" He( the Prophet pbuh) speaks not out of passion. It is not but a revelation revealed."
On this word there was agreement. All the important scholars have written
that the name 'Baqir' was given to him by the Prophet (pbuh)
Then he himself explained the name
"It is Baqir ( the Cleaver), why?"
"Because he shall cleave the Knowledge of the Prophets."
Now the discussion regarding this word is beyond the time we have.
